Clean Eats Review: Quest Bars

I told myself countless of times to be more disciplined in terms of posting in my blog. Admittedly, it’s not an issue of lacking ideas as I have an abundant list of things to post about (mostly health-related, and also regarding my last trip to Hong Kong), but the lack of time due to my recently rigid schedule. Not that you all care, but lately my schedule has been like this from Monday to Friday:

5:30 a.m- wake up
6:45 a.m- leave for work
7:15 a.m- drop stuff at gym
7:30 a.m- arrive at work
7:30 until 8:30 a.m- breakfast break
8:30 a.m until 5:30 a.m- work
6:00 p.m until 9:00 or 9:45 a.m (depending on training schedule)- gym
10:15 p.m until 12:00 m.n- chores

And repeat. So, really, with only 5.5 hours of sleep everyday along with 9 hours of work and roughly 2-3 hours of gym, I’m left with little time to write a coherent blog entry. On weekends, meanwhile, I go to the gym around 2-5 hours on Saturdays depending on my mood, and I’m only able to chill (i.e sleep and do chores) on Sundays.  Hence, there really is a deficit of time on my part and a surplus of things I’d like to do.

But let’s cut to the chase. I’m writing now, and I’m sure you all missed me, YES?! (Don’t bother disagreeing because I won’t know anyway LOL)

And because you all missed me, I’d like to write a review on my current healthy addiction: Quest Bars.

Personal Weight Loss Story

I’m writing this to hopefully establish the fact that I do have some credibility that would support what I have written in this blog regarding fitness and what I will soon write about as well.

First, disclaimers:

  • I DID NOT HAVE A FITNESS TRAINER (Well, not until recently. And also unless you count my boyfriend as a trainer, haha)

First off, let me just say that I am SO, SO, SO, SO HAPPY that my first blog post received 500 pageviews in less than 24 hours! I know, I know, they’re just pageviews, pssh. Nevertheless, it made my day knowing that there are people out there who are actually interested in what I have to say. And really, it means a lot to me because fitness is something very close to my heart and something that I like talking about for hours on end. Plus, I never thought people would actually think of me as someone credible enough to give fitness advice in the first place.

Nonetheless, I thank you guys for your support J And as promised, I’m here to continue with talking about weight loss, but I’m going to zero in on EXERCISE this time.

Weight-Loss Tips for Beginners Part 1: Eating Habits

I'm writing this blog post to revive my sad excuse for a blog, which I will be updating more frequently (or so I always say) in hopes of maximizing the amount that I paid for my domain.  Also because I resolved to make a fitness blog, which has really taken me ages to start on—but only because I wasn’t so confident of making one in the past.

I decided to make this entry on the first day of the new year itself to jump start on blogging and for me not to procrastinate any further. My new mantra this 2014 will be “NO DAY BUT TODAY,” and I’m applying this in all aspects of my life, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO FITNESS. And really, I encourage all of you who want to pursue a healthier lifestyle to do the same so that you won’t keep putting it off until the next year (or the next, and so on)!

As my first fitness-related post in this blog, here’s what I would like to talk about:

I know a lot of friends and acquaintances are very curious as to how I’ve lost all my weight, and for now, I’d like to tone down my own narcissism and put off writing any overly emotional anecdotes (because really, I don’t know how many people would like to start the new year reading my life story). So instead of writing about my personal weight-loss journey, I’ll start by giving you guys some tips on how you yourselves can lose weight!

Of course, I’ve been at that point where I wanted to lose weight and failed several times, and eventually became successful at it. Hence, I’d like to share with you guys what I know so you guys won’t waste as much time as I did doing trial-and-error experiments on my body and routine. I don’t claim to be an expert, but I do have experience to give you guys some effective tips on how to shed those pounds and eventually feel good about yourselves.

I’ve decided to split this post into two because as you may or may not know, there are two important components to weight loss: EATING HABITS AND EXERCISE. I’m going to start with the tips that involve food, and as you read this post, you’ll know why I decided to start with it. Since it’s the New Year, though, I decided to throw in two most important tips that are related to neither of those two, and they’re actually the first two on the list.

Healthy Cooking 1: Grilled Chicken Salad

In lieu of the Chinese New Year holidays, I've decided to update my blog once again after going on a trip in Beijing with my boyfriend and our friends. I'll expound more on the trip later this week, but for now, I'll share with you a recipe that I've created on my own just recently.

Being on what seems to be an eternal diet, I've always been trying to find ways on how to make the food I eat taste good without sacrificing its health benefits. It has been quite tough, but I have been able to find the balance between taste and quality.

For today, I'll share with you the recipe of my version of the Grilled Chicken Salad.

Outback Steakhouse (Zhaojiabang Lu, Shanghai)

Being quite diet-conscious, both my boyfriend and I seldom go out to eat unless needed (i.e we have no time to cook because of assignments/classes).  However, these past few weeks were just too stressful for us that we decided to treat ourselves to a restaurant that was just near our dormitory but would satisfy our deprived palates.

Lucky for us, Outback Steakhouse opened in the mall that was just a two-minute walk away. Since this franchise is not new to us, we decided to visit the establishment because we both had pleasant experiences with the brand in our respective countries (my boyfriend in Dubai, while me in Manila).  To our surprise, however, the Outback Steakhouse here in Shanghai seems to be positioned differently, since it looks very posh with its fine dining-like ambience. This was in contrast with the Outback Steakhouse brand we were aware of, which was more of a casual and laid back Australian restaurant.

We both ordered the Sydney set, which consisted of soup, salad, steak, and dessert. This 4-course meal was really scrumptious, but I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Lobster Bisque Soup
Lobster Bisque has always been my default choice when ordering soup.  This one lived up to my expectations, as it was creamy and had a generous amount of lobster meat.

Qipu Lu Haul and Guide to Bargaining (Long Post!

Belated happy new year to everyone! I’m actually more than weeks late in greeting this blog and its readers, and more than a month late than posting another blog post, but I have been caught up with school (as usual) so I haven’t had the time to write something decent. That, and I seldom go out these days (except for when I go to school), so I can’t take any interesting photos of food, outfits, or what have you.

Thankfully, I’ve been given a 3-day weekend before the stress commences again this coming week, and I was able to pay a visit to one of my favorite shopping destinations here in Shanghai: Qipu Lu, or Qipu Road (pronounced as chee-poo).

Situated near East Nanjing, Qipu Lu houses several buildings that consist of small kiosks, all selling various products. From accessories to clothes, umbrellas to gadget cases, everything one needs for day to day life can probably be found there.  Admittedly, though, it's not the place to look for gadgets and there are more stores that cater to women, so it's not all that perfect. Plus, one important thing that must be remembered is that when going to Qipu Lu, ONE MUST ALWAYS BARGAIN.  I’ll get back to this point later, but here are the various things I found in this shopping haven:

Cat Tunic, RMB50~$8
I've been seeing this in numerous blog sites, and was fortunate to stumble upon it in a tiny kiosk. Since this was originally RMB65, I tried to bargain for half its price, but failed because only a few of them sold this particular item (and the others sold it for a higher price).
