Outback Steakhouse (Zhaojiabang Lu, Shanghai)

Being quite diet-conscious, both my boyfriend and I seldom go out to eat unless needed (i.e we have no time to cook because of assignments/classes).  However, these past few weeks were just too stressful for us that we decided to treat ourselves to a restaurant that was just near our dormitory but would satisfy our deprived palates.

Lucky for us, Outback Steakhouse opened in the mall that was just a two-minute walk away. Since this franchise is not new to us, we decided to visit the establishment because we both had pleasant experiences with the brand in our respective countries (my boyfriend in Dubai, while me in Manila).  To our surprise, however, the Outback Steakhouse here in Shanghai seems to be positioned differently, since it looks very posh with its fine dining-like ambience. This was in contrast with the Outback Steakhouse brand we were aware of, which was more of a casual and laid back Australian restaurant.

We both ordered the Sydney set, which consisted of soup, salad, steak, and dessert. This 4-course meal was really scrumptious, but I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Lobster Bisque Soup
Lobster Bisque has always been my default choice when ordering soup.  This one lived up to my expectations, as it was creamy and had a generous amount of lobster meat.

More under the cut!

Cream of Pumpkin Soup

If my default choice is Lobster Bisque, it's Cream of Pumpkin Soup for my boyfriend. He loved this one and finished it in a minute (not joking).

Shrimp Salad

We both ordered the shrimp salad, and found that the dressing brought out the taste of the well-cooked shrimps. The shrimps were just right in size as well.

New York Cut Steak

Having it cooked medium, I chose this steak due to its lean cut. I skipped on the baked potato because I wanted to make room for dessert, but this whole dish satisfied my carnivorous cravings.

Prime Rib

Cooked medium as well, my boyfriend wanted his steak a bit more fatty. The meat of this cut was softer, and it was just as flavorful as the New York Cut.

Chocolate Down Under

I was very glad that I ditched the baked potato because this dessert was simply orgasmic. This dessert, which consisted of a dark chocolate cake, was served warm and stimulated our taste buds. It literally seemed to melt in my mouth, and it was complemented well by the bittersweet homemade vanilla ice cream.

Classic Apple Pie

Just as the name suggests, this dish was certainly a good take of the dessert we all came to know.

Overall, my boyfriend and I both had a pleasant time at Outback Steakhouse. For RMB198, we certainly think we got the bang for our bucks and would certainly go back there again.

XOXO,
Nicole
